The social network VKontakte is preparing to launch a service for selling audiobooks, which is expected to resolve legal disputes with the Eksmo publishing house. How two sources on the book market, the service will be called Biblio, its test version has already been launched.
It is reported that the service will work on the VK Apps platform, and partners will receive a percentage of the revenue, but the percentage was not specified. At the same time, it was stated that the service will work on desktop and mobile devices, and more than 10 thousand works are promised to be available. We are talking, as stated, about all the content in demand on the market.
It is alleged that contacts have already been signed with the companies Alpina Publisher, Audiobook and Soyuz, and negotiations are underway with Eksmo-AST and other rights holders. According to Tatyana Plyuta, general director of the Audiobook publishing house, Biblio LLC signed a contract with Audiobook. And the agreement with Eksmo-AST can be signed before the end of the month.
It is expected that the service's audience will be at least 40 million people. It is planned to create a subscription model that will be cheaper than that of liters and Storytel. Unlimited will cost 299 rubles. There will also be a one-time purchase option.
In this case, payment will be made only through VK Pay. And this may limit the number of potential buyers, since not everyone uses VKβs proprietary payment system. It is important to note that VKontakte has not yet announced the exact launch date for the release version of the service.
