Galaxy S20 Ultra owners complain about spontaneous cracks on the camera glass

It seems that the “adventures” of the camera of the Galaxy S20 Ultra smartphone are not over low grades DxOMark specialists and difficulties with autofocus. SamMobile resource сообщает about dozens of complaints from device owners on the official Samsung forum about broken or cracked glass that protects the main camera module on the rear panel.

The first complaints began to appear approximately two weeks after the start of sales of the device. However, the cause of these breakdowns is not entirely clear. Most of the victims claim that the smartphone was not dropped, was carried in a high-quality case, and was generally treated very carefully with the device. It seems as if the glass one day “just broke on its own.” This is not what buyers of a $1400 device would typically expect.

Many note that it all started with one small crack, which limited the zoom capabilities at a certain level. Then the crack grew larger, further reducing the performance of the image magnification function.

As SamMobile points out, since Samsung itself considers such problems as “cosmetic”, they are not covered by the standard smartphone warranty. As a result, users are forced to pay for repairs at their own expense. For example, in the US, the cost of glass replacement (changes along with the back cover) for Samsung Premium Care users will be $100. Those who do not have an extended warranty will have to shell out almost $400.

Given the COVID-19 situation, several owners noted on the forum that they were unable to fix the phone because the company's service centers in their region were closed for quarantine.

Samsung itself has not yet registered on the forum. Many users who have encountered this situation have various theories about why such a problem occurred. Some point out a design flaw and try to reach out to the South Korean manufacturer. But it seems the problem is not as widespread as it might seem. Therefore, the explanation for such cases may be completely different.
