French authorities will allow telecom operators to use existing Huawei equipment

European countries oppose Huawei's 5G expansion to varying degrees. They often express national security concerns, but in practice restrict the use of this Chinese brand in various ways. In France, for example, already existing Huawei equipment in the networks of telecom operators is subject to replacement only after eight years.

French authorities will allow telecom operators to use existing Huawei equipment

The head of the French agency ANSSI, Guillaume Poupard, whose competence includes cybersecurity issues, in an interview with Les Echos newspaper He explainedthat there will be no complete ban on the operation of Huawei equipment. Telecom operators are not recommended to purchase new equipment of this brand, and existing ones can be operated for a period of three to eight years. Of the four telecom operators operating in France, this decision is critical for two companies: Bouygues Telecom and SFR. Their equipment fleet consists of approximately 50% Huawei products. State-owned telecom operators preferred Nokia and Ericsson equipment.

As the representative of the relevant French department explains, the recommendations to refuse to use Huawei equipment are aimed at protecting the country's independence, but are not a manifestation of hostility towards China. The risks when using equipment from European and Chinese suppliers, he said, are different. Recall that recently, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (Boris Johnson) openly ranked Huawei among the "representatives of hostile states."

In the new material Reuters British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said there are clear requirements for Huawei's participation in building a national 5G infrastructure, and so far they have not changed. Hancock declined to comment on the recently announced intentions of the Kingdom's authorities to completely ban the use of Huawei equipment within six months. Regulatory authorities must formulate requirements, he explained, that would allow the creation of both a strong and secure telecommunications infrastructure.
