VMware will transfer to remote work on a permanent basis up to 60% of the staff

Many companies in conditions of self-isolation had to urgently test their business processes for compatibility with remote work technology. Some of the companies were satisfied with the results, and even after the end of the pandemic, they plan to keep some of the remote jobs. VMware will also be among them, which is ready to leave up to 60% of employees at home.

VMware will transfer to remote work on a permanent basis up to 60% of the staff

Even before the crisis generated by the novel coronavirus pandemic, as explained in an interview CNBC the head of the company Patrick Gelsinger (Pat Gelsinger), about 20% of the staff of VMware worked out of the office. In the medium term, according to him, from 50 to 60% of VMware's staff can be transferred to remote work, and it cannot be argued that the company in this sense will be very different from many others. Twitter and Square have already said they can work remotely on a permanent basis, the head of Facebook has made it clear that before the end of the decade, 50% of the staff can switch to this form of activity.

“Sometimes it takes ten years to make a week of progress. Sometimes a week gives you a decade of progress,” Gelsinger explained. “Suddenly, education, healthcare and remote work take huge steps forward.” At the end of January, VMware had 31 employees. According to the head of the company, small offices may eventually be closed, switching to a remote form of work. The headquarters will also be reorganized, but will still involve staff in the office. At the end of the last quarter, VMware showed a 12% increase in revenue, but Gelsinger estimates the outlook for the coming quarters conservatively, as the company will “require new muscles” to implement new projects in a pandemic.
