Square Enix has suspended the automatic house demolition system in the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV for users who have not logged into the game due to the expiration of their subscription. The developer went to meet users because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The main reason for the decision was that due to the spread of COVID-19, many people have now lost their jobs or cannot get a job and therefore cannot pay for a subscription to Final Fantasy XIV. "Given the worldwide spread of COVID-19 (also known as the 'novel coronavirus') and the economic impact of various cities going into lockdown, we have decided to temporarily suspend automatic home demolitions," Square Enix said in a statement.
To clarify, in Final Fantasy XIV, players can purchase a plot of land and place a homestead on it. However, for it to continue to exist, users must log into the project on a regular basis. If this is not done, the house is marked as inactive and demolished after 45 days. Now - temporarily - this will not happen.
Final Fantasy XIV subscription fee is $12,99 per month. The current world situation has hit the financial condition of many people on the planet hard, so not everyone can pay for a subscription. While the game still requires money, at least users won't have to worry about losing their in-game home.
Final Fantasy XIV is available on PC and PlayStation 4. The game has also been for Xbox One.
