German startup Volocopter said Singapore is one of the most likely locations to commercially launch an air taxi service using electric aircraft. He plans to launch an air taxi service here to deliver passengers over short distances at the price of a regular taxi ride.
The company has now applied to Singapore regulators to seek permission to conduct a public test flight in the coming months.
Volocopter, whose investors include Daimler, Intel and Geely, plans to launch a commercial air taxi service using its own aircraft within the next two to three years.
A number of companies are trying to bring air taxi services to the mass market, but this is still hardly possible due to the lack of a regulatory framework and appropriate infrastructure, as well as security problems.
