Issues of protection of personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation will be solved by a special working group

The need for a detailed consideration of user data protection issues was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Petr Tolstoy, who cited as an example the recent incident related to leakage confidential information of millions of Russian citizens. He noted that following the data leak, the disappearance of money from electronic accounts may begin. In his speech, Mr. Tolstoy recalled a recent incident involving the leakage of user confidential information from eight state systems, including registers of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Finance, electronic trading platforms, etc.

It was also noted that within the framework of the Digital Economy project being implemented, the protection of the rights of citizens should be carried out in full. According to Mr. Tolstoy, the collection of all information about a person in one file is contrary to the current law on personal data.

As a result, it was decided to create a working group headed by Pyotr Tolstoy. It will also include members of the government, experts, members of the Federation Council, as well as representatives of relevant committees. It is expected that the first steps aimed at protecting the confidential information of Russians will be announced in a month. In addition, these issues will be considered at the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy, which will be held on May 24.
