WhatsApp runs on a huge number of operating systems, but even the ubiquitous messaging app doesn't think it's worth continuing to support Windows Phone. Company about ending support for older versions of Android and iOS, as well as the rarely used Windows Phone OS. And that time has come.
The company has confirmed that it only supports and recommends the following mobile devices:
- Android 4.0.3 and later;
- iPhone with iOS 9 or later;
- select phones running KaiOS 2.5.1 and later, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
Some older OS will still work for a limited time. The app will continue to work on devices running Android 2.3.7 and older or iOS 8 and older until February 1, 2020. However, as of December 31, 2019, WhatsApp will no longer support the Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile platforms. Features and software may stop working at any time after this. The creation of new accounts has already been blocked previously on Windows smartphones.
If you want to use your WhatsApp account on a new device, you won't be able to transfer your chat history to another platform. However, you can export your chat history as an email attachment - it's best to do this before the deadline if a backup copy of the conversation is really important.
