As expected at the end of last year, the cost of RAM modules has dropped significantly. According to the TechPowerUp resource, at the moment the price of DDR4 modules has dropped to the lowest level in the last three years.
For example, an 4GB (2133Γ8GB) dual-channel DDR2-4 kit can be purchased on Newegg for just $43. In turn, a set of 16 GB (2 Γ 8 GB) with a frequency of 2666 MHz will cost $75. More advanced 16 GB kits with a frequency of 3200 MHz and higher, equipped with heatsinks, can now be purchased for $100, and similar models with RGB lighting also start at $120.
There has also been a reduction in prices for modules of a larger volume. So, the most affordable 32 GB set of two modules with a volume of 16 GB each, with a frequency of 2666 MHz, is now estimated at $135. A more advanced 3000MHz set with backlit heatsinks costs $175. And last December for such kits they asked for $200 and $250, respectively.
In addition to memory for ordinary PCs, kits for high-performance systems (HEDT) are also getting cheaper. For example, a 32 GB quad-channel kit now starts at $150 (DDR4-2133), while the same 3000 MHz kit costs $180. Quad-channel 64GB kits now start at $290, more than $100 less than last December. Note that the most affordable in most cases are kits from G.Skill.
Price cuts for DDR4 kits are observed not only in the US, but also in European retail. In Europe, 16 GB dual-channel kits start at 80 euros, while double-sized kits are sold at prices starting at 160 euros. In Russia, a two-channel kit for 8 GB can be found at a price of 3100 rubles, for 16 GB - from 5600 rubles, and for 32 GB - from 12 rubles.
Recall that the cost of RAM began to grow from the end of 2016 - the beginning of 2017. Prices reached their peak at the beginning of last year and then began to gradually decline. And since the end of 2018, an even more active price drop began, which continues to this day.
