The US administration is reportedly considering imposing restrictions, similar to those imposed against Huawei, on the Chinese manufacturer of video surveillance systems Hikvision. This raises fears of further aggravation of trade disputes between the two leading economies of the world.
The restrictions could affect Hikvision's ability to buy US technology, and US companies will likely have to get government approval to supply components to the Chinese firm, according to the New York Times.

Huawei says it can secure a sustainable component supply chain without the help of US firms. A Hikvision spokesperson expressed the same opinion.
βEven if the US stops selling components to us, we will be able to rectify the situation through other suppliers,β said a top manager of Hikvision on condition of anonymity, given the sensitivity of the issue. βThe chips that Hikvision uses are produced in large numbers and most of the suppliers are actually in China,β the source told Reuters. He added that the company was not informed about being included in any US blacklists.
In turn, the Bloomberg resource reported, citing people familiar with this issue, that the US government is considering adding Hikvision, security equipment manufacturer Zhejiang Dahua Technology and several other firms to the black list.
