Second beta release of VirtualBox 6.1

Oracle Company presented the second beta release of VirtualBox 6.1 virtualization system. Compared with first beta release the following changes:

  • Improved support for nested hardware virtualization on Intel CPUs, added the ability to run Windows on an external VM;
  • Support for the recompiler has been discontinued; running virtual machines now requires support for hardware virtualization in the CPU;
  • Runtime is adapted to work on hosts with a large number of CPUs (no more than 1024);
  • The interface for setting up storages and the network subsystem has been optimized;
  • Added CPU load indicator to the status bar in the virtual machine;
  • Added multimedia keys to the software keyboard;
  • Increased flexibility for importing and exporting virtual machines to OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure). Added the ability to bind arbitrary tags to cloud images;
  • Removed 3D support for legacy VBoxVGA driver;
  • Added support for additional texture formats for Windows hosts;
  • Added the ability to change the sound backend running on the host side when the VM is in a saved state;
  • Added vboximg-mount utility for Linux hosts;
  • Added support for moving multiple guest system source files/directories to a target directory in VBoxManage;
  • EFI implementation moved to newer firmware code, NVRAM support added.
