Second release candidate for the Debian 11 "Bullseye" installer

The second release candidate for the installer for the next major Debian release, "Bullseye", has been published. There are currently 155 release-blocking critical bugs (185 a month ago, 240 two months ago, 472 four months ago, 10 at the moment of freezing in Debian 316, 9 in Debian 275, 8 in Debian 350, 7 in Debian 650, XNUMX).

At the same time, the date of the complete freeze of the Debian 11 "Bullseye" package base, immediately preceding the release, was announced. On July 17, the submission of any changes to packages will be blocked and will require permission from the release team. The release is expected in the second half of summer 2021.

Key changes in the installer compared to the first release candidate:

  • In the cdebconf (Debian Configuration Management System) configurator, the design of informational messages and the action log has been improved. Fixed issues with hangs that occur when switching to the crash recovery mode shell or selecting certain interface languages.
  • Updated list of mirrors.
  • Added brltty and espeakup packages for people with visual impairments to all images, including images for network installation.
  • The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.10.0-7.
  • The ability to force setting the installation mode level in conditions of a small amount of memory in the system (lowmem=+0) is provided. Updated lowmem levels for arm64, armhf, mipsel, mips64el and ppc64el architectures.
  • In udev-udeb, symlinks /dev/fd and /dev/std{in,out,err} are configured.
  • Added mdio module for ethernet controller of Raspberry Pi 4 boards.
