Following the release of the new version of OpenBSD this week, the NetBSD team also released a major update in the form of NetBSD 9.1.
NetBSD 9.1 contains many improvements, including changes such as:
- NetBSD 9.1 includes a new default X11 window manager and other desktop improvements
- Improved touchpad and trackpoint behavior for Lenovo ThinkPad laptops
- improved frame buffer performance in the console
- fixes and other improvements related to ZFS file system support. The BSD file system with the LFS journal structure also received stability improvements
- support for USB security keys in raw mode, which can then be used by applications such as Firefox
- support for the Xen 4.13 hypervisor, as well as ongoing improvements to the NVMM hypervisor
- expanded support for hardware random number generators with hardware RNGs on various Arm chips
- AQ driver now supports Aquantia 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters
- support for parallel disk encryption using NetBSD CGD driver
