Release of Alt Server Virtualization 10.1

The release of the operating system "Alt Virtualization Server" 10.1 on the 10th ALT platform (p10 Aronia branch) was released. The operating system is designed to be used on servers and implement virtualization functions in corporate infrastructure. A service for working with Docker images is available. Assemblies are prepared for x86_64, AArch64 and ppc64le architectures. The Product is provided under a License Agreement that allows free use by individuals, but legal entities are only allowed to test, and use requires the purchase of a commercial license or a written license agreement.

Innovations:

  • The system environment is based on the Linux 5.10 kernel and systemd 249.13.
  • The kernel-modules-drm package has been added to the installer, providing higher performance for graphics hardware (relevant for AArch64 platforms).
  • Using the GRUB bootloader (grub-pc) instead of syslinux in the Legacy BIOS image.
  • Added support for NUMA memory optimization (numactl) when using the basic virtualization script based on kvm+libvirt+qemu.
  • Improved multipath support for network storage creation (multipathd is included in the default installer).
  • The default network settings uses etcnet, which allows you to configure the network manually. Administrator (root) privileges are required to work with configuration files.
  • Using CRI-O instead of Docker in Kubernetes.
  • The virtualization management system PVE 7.2 (Proxmox Virtual Environment) adds support for new services and settings, synchronizes with the Debian 11.3 package base, uses the Linux 5.15 kernel, and also updated QEMU 6.2, LXC 4.0, Ceph 16.2.7 and OpenZFS 2.1.4.
  • The limit on the number of virtual processors (vCPUs) for hypervisor hosts has been increased to allow the use of more powerful hardware to deploy a virtualization management system.
  • Updated versions of key components for creating, managing and monitoring a virtual circuit.
  • The official container images in the container registry have been updated, and the images on hub.docker.com and images.linuxcontainers.org have also been updated.
