After ten months of development, the Endless OS 5.1 distribution has been released, aimed at creating an easy-to-use system in which you can quickly select applications to your taste. Applications are distributed as self-contained packages in Flatpak format. The boot images offered range in size from 1.1 to 18 GB.
The distribution does not use traditional package managers, instead offering a minimal, atomically updated read-only base system built using the OSTree toolkit (the system image is atomically updated from a Git-like repository). Ideas identical to Endless OS have recently been attempted by Fedora developers as part of the Silverblue project to create an atomically updated version of Fedora Workstation, as well as by the creators of Vanilla OS, tau-OS and Pop!_OS. The Endless OS installer and update system is used in GNOME OS.

- Improved Endless OS performance on Raspberry Pi boards. Added support for hardware graphics acceleration on Raspberry Pi 4 and 400 boards. The ability to boot from a USB drive connected to the Raspberry Pi board is provided.
- Improved implementation of scroll bars, which in most applications are now always visible by default, rather than only appearing when you hover the mouse towards the edge of the window.
- In the file manager, by default, the mode of displaying files in the form of a grid of icons is enabled (in the settings you can return the display as a list of files).
- Removed from the package: the Hack application for teaching children programming and the Brasero CD/DVD burning program. The browser has stopped automatically installing the Adblock Plus ad blocker.
