Release of aTox 0.6.0, a private and secure messenger for Android

aTox 0.6.0, a new version of the free and open source mobile messenger using the Tox (c-toxcore) protocol, has been released. Tox offers a decentralized P2P messaging model that uses cryptographic methods to authenticate the user and protect transit traffic from interception. The application is written in the Kotlin programming language. The source code and ready-made builds of the application are distributed under the GNU GPLv3 license.

aTox features:

  • Open source: the ability to freely distribute, explore and modify it.
  • Convenience: simple and clear settings.
  • End-to-End Encryption: The only people who can see your conversations are you and your conversation partners.
  • Distribution: no central servers that can be turned off or from which your data can be transferred to someone else.
  • Lightweight: There are no telemetry, ads, or other forms of surveillance of you, and the installer for the current version of the application weighs only 14 megabytes.
