Audacious 4.0 release

Sound player released on March 21 Audacious 4.0.

Audacious is a player aimed at low consumption of computer resources, a fork of BMP, a successor to XMMS.

The new release uses by default Qt 5. GTK 2 remains as a build option, but all new features will be added to the Qt interface.

The WinAmp-like Qt interface was not finished for release and lacks features such as Jump to Song windows. Users of the WinAmp-like interface are recommended to use the GTK interface for now.

Improvements and changes:

  • Clicking on the playlist column headings sorts the playlist.
  • Dragging the playlist column headings changes the order of the columns.
  • Volume and time step settings apply to the entire application.
  • Added a new option to hide playlist tabs.
  • Sorting the playlist by file path sorts the folders after the files.
  • Implemented additional MPRIS calls for compatibility with KDE 5.16+.
  • New tracker plugin based on OpenMPT.
  • New visualizer “Sound Level Meter”.
  • Added option to use SOCKS proxy.
  • New commands “Next Album” and “Previous Album”.
  • The new tag editor in the Qt interface can edit multiple files at once.
  • Implemented an equalizer preset window in the Qt interface.
  • Added the ability to locally download and save lyrics in the lyrics plugin.
  • Visualizers “Blur Scope” and “Spectrum Analyzer” have been ported to Qt.
  • Soundfont selection for the MIDI plugin has been ported to Qt.
  • New options for the JACK plugin.
  • Added option to loop PSF files endlessly.
