BlueZ 5.66 Bluetooth stack release with initial LA Audio support

The release of the free BlueZ 5.47 Bluetooth stack used in Linux and Chrome OS distributions has taken place. The release is notable for the initial implementation of the BAP (Basic Audio Profile), which is part of the LE Audio (Low Energy Audio) standard and defines the capabilities to control the delivery of audio streams for devices using Bluetooth LE (Low Energy).

Supports reception and transmission of sound in normal and broadcast modes. At the level of sound servers, BAP support was included in the PipeWire 0.3.59 release and can be used on the host or peripheral side for two-way transmission of audio streams encoded using the LC3 (Low Complexity Communication Codec) codec.

In addition, in BlueZ 5.66, the implementation of the Bluetooth Mesh profile introduced support for MGMT (Management opcode) control codes, which are used to organize joint work with one controller of the main bluetooth background process and a new mesh handler that ensures the operation of a mesh network in which a certain device can be connected to the current system through a chain of connections through neighboring devices. The new version also fixes bugs in A2DP, GATT and HOG handlers.
