Pale Moon Browser 28.11 Release

Submitted by web browser release Pale Moon 28.11, which forked from the Firefox codebase to provide greater performance, retain the classic interface, minimize memory consumption, and provide more customization options. Pale Moon builds are formed for Windows ΠΈ Linux (x86 and x86_64). Project Code spreads licensed under MPLv2 (Mozilla Public License).

The project adheres to the classic organization of the interface, without switching to the Australis interface integrated in Firefox 29, and with the provision of extensive customization options. Removed components include DRM, Social API, WebRTC, PDF viewer, Crash Reporter, statistics collection code, parental controls, and people with disabilities. Compared to Firefox, the browser retains support for XUL technology and retains the ability to use both full-fledged and lightweight themes. Pale Moon is built on a platform UXP (Unified XUL Platform), which forked Firefox components from the Mozilla Central repository, freed from bindings to Rust code and not including the developments of the Quantum project.

  • Certificate and password stores have been converted to use SQLite. After the upgrade, the profile will be converted and the ability to use it with older releases will be lost.
  • Added setting browser.tabs.insertAllAfterCurrent to add a new tab right after the current one instead of at the end of the list.
  • Changed the display of add-ons in the add-on manager.
  • It is forbidden to use add-ons that are not explicitly intended for Pale Moon (for example, add-ons written for Firefox will stop working).
  • Updated bookmark backup code.
  • Added setting browser.bookmarks.editDialog.showForNewBookmarks to show the edit dialog when adding a new bookmark by clicking on the star in the address bar.
  • Improved compatibility with GCC 10.
