Pale Moon Browser 31.4 Release

The release of the Pale Moon 31.4 web browser has been published, which forked from the Firefox codebase to provide higher performance, preserve the classic interface, minimize memory consumption and provide additional customization options. Pale Moon builds are generated for Windows and Linux (x86 and x86_64). The project code is distributed under the MPLv2 (Mozilla Public License).

The project adheres to the classic interface organization, without switching to the Australis interface integrated into Firefox 29, and with extensive customization options. The removed components include DRM, Social API, WebRTC, PDF viewer, Crash Reporter, code for collecting statistics, tools for parental controls and people with disabilities. Compared to Firefox, support for XUL technology has been returned to the browser and the ability to use both full-fledged and lightweight design themes has been retained.

In the new version:

  • Added support for JPEG-XL image format.
  • Regular expressions implement the β€œlookbehind” (sending back) and β€œlookaround” (checking the environment) modes.
  • The code for parsing CORS headers has been brought into compliance with the specification (the ability to specify β€œ*” masks in the Access-Control-Expose-Headers, Access-Control-Allow-Headers and Access-Control-Allow-Method headers has been added).
  • Stopped generating keypress events for keys with non-printable characters (backspace, tab, cursor keys).
  • Added support for the macOS 13 "Ventura" platform.
  • Removed code for evaluating the effectiveness of panning and tab animations used when collecting telemetry.
  • Removed code to support building on the SunOS platform.
