Chrome OS Release 120

A release of the Chrome OS 120 operating system is available, based on the Linux kernel, the upstart system manager, the ebuild / portage assembly tool, open components and the Chrome 120 web browser. The Chrome OS user environment is limited to a web browser, and web applications are involved instead of standard programs, however, Chrome OS includes a full multi-window interface, desktop and taskbar. The source texts are distributed under the Apache 2.0 free license. Chrome OS build 120 is available for most current Chromebook models. Chrome OS Flex edition is offered for use on regular computers.

Key changes in Chrome OS 120:

  • Added the “Nearby Share Self Share” feature, which allows you to share files between multiple devices of the same user. Data reception is confirmed automatically on all Android or ChromeOS devices that are linked to the same Google account, even if the device's screen is turned off.
  • A new Virtual Desk button is built into the panel for quickly switching between virtual desktops, as well as for creating a new desktop, visually assessing the contents of desktops and grouping them.
