Cinnamon 5.2 desktop environment release

After 5 months of development, the release of the Cinnamon 5.2 user environment has been formed, within the framework of which the distribution developer community Linux Mint is a fork of the GNOME Shell, the Nautilus file manager, and the Mutter window manager, aimed at providing a classic GNOME 2-style environment while maintaining the successful GNOME Shell interface elements. Cinnamon is based on GNOME components, but these components are delivered as a periodically synchronized fork, free of external dependencies from GNOME. A new release of Cinnamon will be offered in the distribution. Linux Mint 20.3, which is scheduled to be released at the end of December.

Main innovations:

  • In the Mint-X theme, the style of the notification block and the panel in the Nemo file manager has been optimized. Instead of two different themes for dark and light headings, a common theme has been implemented that dynamically changes color depending on the selected mode. Removed support for the combo theme, which combines dark titles with light windows. Improved display of applications with separate dark interfaces in a light theme based environment (we are talking about applications such as Celluloid, Xviewer, Pix, Hypnotix and GNOME terminal, which have their own light and dark theme switcher).
