Release of DietPi 8.17, distribution for single-board PCs

DietPi 8.17 Specialized Distribution Released for Use on ARM and RISC-V Single Board PCs such as Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, NanoPi, BananaPi, BeagleBone Black, Rock64, Rock Pi, Quartz64, Pine64, Asus Tinker, Odroid and VisionFive 2. The distribution is based on the Debian package base and is available in builds for more than 50 boards. DietPi can also be used to create compact environments for virtual machines and regular PCs based on the x86_64 architecture. Board builds are compact (average 130 MB) and take up less storage space compared to Raspberry Pi OS and Armbian.

The project is optimized for minimal resource consumption and develops several of its own utilities: interface for installing DietPi-Software applications, DietPi-Config configurator, DietPi-Backup backup system, DietPi-Ramlog temporary logging mechanism (rsyslog is also supported), interface for setting execution priorities DietPi-Services processes and the DietPi-Update update delivery system. The utilities provide a console-based user interface with whiptail-based menus and dialogs. The mode of full automation of the installation is supported, which allows installation on boards without user intervention.

The new version has updated builds based on the Debian 11 and Debian 12 repositories. The structure includes the openHAB smart home control system, the Moonlight GameStream client, and the Restic backup utility. Full support for NanoPi R6C board, improved support for NanoPi R, ROCK Pi 4, Raspberry Pi and Quartz64 boards.
