4MLinux 39.0 distribution release

The release of 4MLinux 39.0 has been published, a minimalistic user distribution that is not a fork from other projects and uses a JWM-based graphical environment. 4MLinux can be used not only as a Live environment for playing multimedia files and solving user tasks, but also as a system for disaster recovery and a platform for running LAMP servers (Linux, Apache, MariaDB and PHP). Two iso images (1 GB, x86_64) with a graphical environment and a selection of programs for server systems have been prepared for downloading.

In the new version:

  • The structure includes a server with an implementation of FSP (File Service Protocol), a file transfer protocol over the network based on UDP. The gFTP program can be used as a client.
  • Work has been done to improve font rendering.
  • The installation script has improved support for JBD (Journaling Block Device) disk partitions.
  • The list of applications available for quick installation includes the text editor Bluefish, the USB storage creation tool Ventoy, and the strategy game TripleA.
  • The youtube-dl utility has been replaced by a more actively developed analogue yt-dlp.
