A distribution update has been published Linux Alt Workstation K 11.4, which offers the KDE desktop environment and is designed for office and home use. This build is designed for the x86_64 architecture and is built on the ALT 11 platform. An ISO installation image (10.7 GB) and a separate Live build (6.4 GB) are available for download.
Only individuals, including individual entrepreneurs, can freely use the downloaded version. Commercial and government organizations can download and test the distribution, but for permanent work in the corporate infrastructure, legal entities must purchase licenses or enter into written licensing agreements.
Major changes:
- The user environment has been updated to KDE Plasma 6.6, which adds support for text recognition in screenshots, a new on-screen keyboard, color correction for people with color blindness, and automatic screen brightness adjustment on devices with a light sensor. KDE Gear 26.04, KDE Frameworks 6.26, and Qt 6.10 have also been updated.
- A new packaging scheme for NVIDIA drivers has been proposed, which are now supplied as a single set with all the necessary components, libraries, and utilities.
- After updating the system, the NVIDIA graphics card will work correctly on the current kernel, without the need to update the NVIDIA kernel module.
- The userpasswd utility is excluded from the delivery (the password can be changed in the configurator “System” — “System parameters” — “Users”).
- Stapler is separated into a separate installer component.
- The "Web Terminal" session has been switched to use Wayland and Systemd, and sound support has been added.
- The p7zip archiver has been replaced by 7-Zip.
