Release of the distribution kit Alt Workstation K 9.1

The release of the Alt Workstation K 9.1 distribution kit is available, equipped with a graphical environment based on KDE Plasma and intended for corporate workplaces and personal use. The OS is included in the Unified Register of Russian Programs and Databases.

The assemblies are prepared for the x86_64 architecture in the form of an installation image (4,3 GB) and a Live image (3,1 GB). The product is supplied under a License Agreement, which allows free use by individuals, but legal entities are only allowed to test, and use is required to purchase a commercial license or enter into a written license agreement (reasons).

The distribution is equipped with a graphical interface for configuring the system, including authentication (including through Active Directory and LDAP/Kerberos), setting and synchronizing time, managing users, groups, viewing system logs and adding printers. The delivery includes proprietary NVIDIA drivers instead of free nouveau.

Among the innovations compared to the eighth version are:

  • significantly expanded hardware support, incl. NVMe on Intel RST and recently released NVIDIA video accelerators;
  • OEM installation mode is possible with initial system setup at first start;
  • improved integration into heterogeneous corporate IT infrastructure by expanding support for Microsoft group policies for users and machines running Linux;
  • modules for group policies, system user restrictions, disk quotas, restricting access to consoles/using scripting languages/using macros in applications, shutting down the system at a specified time, compressed ZRAM/ZSWAP paging file, selecting encryption algorithms in the OpenVPN client and server settings;
  • default web browser is chromium-gost instead of firefox-esr;
  • the ability to sign a file with an electronic signature directly in the office suite;
  • the educational programs section has been excluded;
  • Skanlite has been replaced by XSane, and KDE Telepathy has been replaced by a set of programs with similar functionality;
  • the ability to use pre-prepared BTRFS subvolumes during installation;
  • displaying a list of planned operations when partitioning disks during installation;
  • for EFI, the bootloader is GRUB instead of rEFInd during system installation;
  • The default editor for text mode is mcedit;
  • Adobe Flash Player has been removed from the distribution;
  • running NVIDIA Optimus via PRIME Render Offload (no longer supported via Bumblebee);
  • the ability to run programs with a specified resource consumption limit;
  • application center with support for Flatpak and Plasma add-ons;
  • added a configuration utility for the Grub boot loader, KDE Connect - a program for connecting a computer and an Android smartphone, a graphical utility for launching programs under another user with a given priority;
  • automatic configuration of network printers with a universal driver;
  • support for current GOST algorithms, incl. the ability to set user password hashes in accordance with GOST and the ability to create secure VPN tunnels with control of the integrity of IP packet headers in accordance with GOST;
  • improved application translations;
  • improved performance of devices with touch input;
  • made a graphical prompt for the LUKS password displayed when the system boots;
  • The UUID is saved when the SWAP partition is formatted during installation.
