Release of the CentOS 7.8 distribution

Available release of the CentOS 7.8 distribution (2003), which incorporated changes from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.8. The distribution is fully binary compatible with RHEL 7.8 (changes made to the packages usually amount to rebranding and replacement of the artwork).

CentOS 7.8 builds available for architectures x86_64, Aarch64 (ARM64), i386, ARMv7 (armhfp), ppc64, ppc64le and Power9. For x86_64 architecture prepared by installation DVD builds (4.7 GB), NetInstall image for network installation (595 MB), minimal server build (1 GB), full image for USB Flash (11 GB) and Live builds with GNOME (1.5 GB) and KDE ( 2 GB). SRPMS packages, on the basis of which the binaries are built, and debuginfo are available through vault.centos.org.

All changes on CentOS 7.8:

  • Packages with Python 3 are included; when installing the python3 p package, Python 3.6 is offered;
  • The Bind NS server has been updated to branch 9.11, and the chrony time synchronization system has been updated to version 3.4;
  • ImageMagick has been updated from release 6.7.8 to 6.9.10;
  • The interface for switching virtual desktops in the GNOME Classic environment has been changed; the button for switching has been moved to the lower right corner and is designed as a strip with thumbnails;
  • The contents of 37 packages have been changed, including: yum, PackageKit, ntp, httpd, dhcp, firefox, glusterfs, grub2, anaconda.
  • Removed RHEL-specific packages such as redhat-*, insights-client and subscription-manager-migration-data
  • In the ARM build, the kernel has been updated to release 5.4.
  • After updating the iptables package (iptables-1.4.21-33.el7.x86_64) is observed iptables-restore fails when there are '-' and 't' characters in a comment field (for example, '-A FORWARD -m comment β€”comment "-t foo bar" -j ACCEPT').
