Clonezilla Live 2.7.2 distribution release

The release of Clonezilla Live 2.7.2 Linux distribution is available, designed for fast disk cloning (only used blocks are copied). The tasks performed by the distribution are similar to the proprietary Norton Ghost product. The distribution iso image size is 308 MB (i686, amd64).

The distribution is based on Debian GNU/Linux and uses the code of such projects as DRBL, Partition Image, ntfsclone, partclone, udpcast in its work. Boot from CD/DVD, USB Flash and network (PXE) is possible. LVM2 and FS ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, xfs, jfs, btrfs, f2fs, nilfs2, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, HFS+, UFS, minix, VMFS3 and VMFS5 (VMWare ESX) are supported. There is a mode of mass cloning over the network, including with the transfer of traffic in multicast mode, which allows you to simultaneously clone the source disk to a large number of client machines. It is possible both to clone from one disk to another, and to create backup copies by saving a disk image to a file. Cloning at the level of entire disks or individual partitions is possible.

In the new version:

  • Synchronized with the Debian Sid package database as of May 30.
  • The Linux kernel has been updated to release 5.10.40 (from 5.9.1), and the systemd system manager to version 248.
  • A new item “VGA with large font & To RAM” has been added to the boot menu, which uses nomodeset instead of KMS when interacting with the graphics subsystem, in case jfbterm does not work on some graphics cards. The “KMS with large font & To RAM” item has been moved to a submenu.
  • Before rebooting and stopping work, the ocs-park-disk handler is called.
  • Improved handling of Veracrypt encrypted partition headers. Added ocs-save-veracrypt-vh and ocs-restore-veracrypt-vh handlers.
  • The “--force” option has been added to the vgcfgrestore utility to force the restoration of metadata.
  • Added boot parameter echo_ocs_repository, which when set to “no” hides the output of the request to mount the repository.
  • In Live mode, the transition to sleep and standby modes is disabled.
  • The option “-sspt” (“—skip-save-part-table”) has been added to ocs-sr and drbl-ocs to save and restore the entire disk without individual manipulations with disk partitions.
  • The jq package is included (similar to sed for JSON data).
