The release of the Clonezilla Live 3.0.3 Linux distribution kit is presented, designed for fast disk cloning (only used blocks are copied). The tasks performed by the distribution are similar to the proprietary Norton Ghost product. The distribution iso image size is 334 MB (i686, amd64).
The distribution is based on Debian GNU/Linux and uses the code of such projects as DRBL, Partition Image, ntfsclone, partclone, udpcast in its work. Boot from CD/DVD, USB Flash and network (PXE) is possible. LVM2 and FS ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, xfs, jfs, btrfs, f2fs, nilfs2, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, HFS+, UFS, minix, VMFS3 and VMFS5 (VMWare ESX) are supported. There is a mode of mass cloning over the network, including with the transfer of traffic in multicast mode, which allows you to simultaneously clone the source disk to a large number of client machines. It is possible both to clone from one disk to another, and to create backup copies by saving a disk image to a file. Cloning at the level of entire disks or individual partitions is possible.
In the new version:
- Synchronized with the Debian Sid package base as of February 12th.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to the 6.1 branch (there was a 6.0 kernel).
- The Partclone toolkit has been moved to version 0.3.23, which has updated the code to support btrfs.
- The recovery menu shows the "-j2" option, which is disabled by default.
- The save menu shows the swap partition, which can now be saved like regular data partitions. There are two saving modes available: saving only the metadata (UUID/partition label) and creating a full dump with the dd utility.
- Improved support for configurations with multiple LUKS encrypted devices.
- Setterm has a "--powersave off" option to prevent the console from going blank.
- Support for the mkinitcpio utility has been added to the initramfs update mechanism, thanks to which it was possible to solve the problems with restoring Arch and Manjaro Linux.
- A new utility ocs-live-ver is included to display the version of Clonezilla Live.
- The ocs-bttrack utility has been replaced by opentracker, as Python 2 has been deprecated from Debian Sid.
- The Memtest86+ memory test utility has been updated to version 6.00.
