Clonezilla Live 3.1.1 distribution release

The release of the Linux distribution Clonezilla Live 3.1.1 has been presented, designed for fast disk cloning (only used blocks are copied). The tasks performed by the distribution are similar to the proprietary product Norton Ghost. The size of the iso image of the distribution is 417MB (i686, amd64).

The distribution is based on Debian GNU/Linux and uses the code of such projects as DRBL, Partition Image, ntfsclone, partclone, udpcast in its work. Boot from CD/DVD, USB Flash and network (PXE) is possible. LVM2 and FS ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, xfs, jfs, btrfs, f2fs, nilfs2, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, HFS+, UFS, minix, VMFS3 and VMFS5 (VMWare ESX) are supported. There is a mode of mass cloning over the network, including with the transfer of traffic in multicast mode, which allows you to simultaneously clone the source disk to a large number of client machines. It is possible both to clone from one disk to another, and to create backup copies by saving a disk image to a file. Cloning at the level of entire disks or individual partitions is possible.

In the new version:

  • Synchronized with the Debian Sid package base as of November 2th.
  • The Linux kernel has been updated to the 6.5 branch (there was a 6.1 kernel).
  • The Partclone toolkit has been updated to Partclone version 0.3.27, which includes support for the β€œ--read-direct-io” and β€œ--write-direct-io” options to enable direct I/O when reading and writing.

  • The live build includes the acpitool, ntfs2btrfs, zfsutils-linux and vim packages (instead of vim-tiny).
  • The mlocate package has been replaced by plocate.
  • Added "-edio" option to TUI to enable direct I/O in Partclone when saving and restoring NVMe SSDs.
  • Added a mechanism for deployment from raw devices in multicast mode.
  • When saving images in TUI, the compression mode β€œ-z9p” is enabled by default (zstd multi-threaded compression).
  • Added "-ssnf" and "-iui" options to ocs-live-feed-img.
  • The bt_restoredisk mode allows restoring images to a device with a different name.
  • Added support for the boot parameter ocs_screen_blank="no" which prohibits turning off the screen when inactive.
  • The Memtest86+ utility has been updated to version 6.20.
  • Provides the ability to select the active network adapter on systems with multiple network cards.
