Based on the Debian package base, Deepin 20.2 distribution has been released, but develops its own Deepin Desktop Environment (DDE) and about 40 user applications, including DMusic music player, DMovie video player, DTalk messaging system, installer and installation center of Deepin Software center. The project was founded by a group of developers from China, but has been transformed into an international project. The distribution kit supports the Russian language. All developments are distributed under the GPLv3 license. The size of the bootable iso image is 3 GB (amd64).

Desktop components and applications are developed using C/C++ (Qt5) and Go. The key feature of the Deepin desktop is the panel, which supports multiple modes of operation.
