The release of the EndeavorOS 2021.04.17 project has been published, which replaced the Antergos distribution, the development of which was terminated in May 2019 due to the lack of free time for the remaining maintainers to maintain the project at the proper level. The distribution offers a simple installer to install a basic Arch Linux environment with a default Xfce desktop and the ability to install one of 9 typical desktops based on i3-wm, Openbox, Mate, Cinnamon, GNOME, BSPWM, Sway, Budgie and KDE from the repository. Endeavor OS allows the user to easily install Arch Linux with the necessary desktop in the form in which it is conceived in its regular filling, offered by the developers of the selected desktop, without additional pre-installed programs. The size of the installation image is 1.9 GB (x86_64, ARM).
In the new release:
- For the ARM platform, two new editions of the distribution kit with user environments based on bspwm and Sway are proposed.
- The ability to install a Deepin user environment has been removed from the installer due to unresolved performance issues.
- Updated software versions, including Linux kernel 5.11.14-arch-1-1, Calamares installer 3.2.39.3-2, Firefox 87.0-2, Mesa 21.0.2-1 and nvidia-dkms 465.24.02-1.
- The Calamares installer now has an option to send installation logs to Pastebin to make it easier to diagnose failures during installation.
- Resolved an issue using NVIDIA video card drivers.
- Added add-ons for Virtualbox to the repository, which are necessary for working with USB devices from virtual environments.
- The Pacdiff tool has been added to the Welcome application to manage system changes and package configuration files. Added a Software news button to display a summary of changes and bug fixes. Added the ability to select existing or download additional wallpapers for the desktop.
