KaOS 2022.04 distribution release

KaOS 2022.04 is released, a continuous update distribution aimed at providing a desktop based on the latest releases of KDE and applications using Qt. Of the distribution-specific design features, one can note the placement of a vertical panel on the right side of the screen. The distribution is developed with Arch Linux in mind, but maintains its own independent repository of more than 1500 packages, and also offers a number of its own graphical utilities. The default file system is XFS. Assemblies are published for x86_64 (2.8 GB) systems.

In the new release:

  • Desktop components have been updated to KDE Plasma 5.24.4, KDE Frameworks 5.93.0, KDE Gear 22.04 and Qt 5.15.3 with patches from the KDE project. The package also includes a package with Qt 6.3.0.
  • Updated package versions, including Glib2 2.72.1, Linux kernel 5.17.5, Systemd 250.4, Boost 1.78.0, DBus 1.14.0, Mesa 22.0.2, Vulkan packages 1.3.212, Util-linux 2.38, Coreutils 9.1 and Libus 1.0.26. The composition includes a new LTS-branch of proprietary drivers NVIDIA 470.xx.
  • To organize a connection to a wireless network, instead of wpa_supplicant, the IWD background process developed by Intel is used.
  • The Skanpage document scanning application is included.
  • Log View mode has been added to the Calamares installer, which allows you to turn on the display of a log with information about the installation progress instead of an informational slideshow.
