KaOS 2022.06 is released, a continuous update distribution aimed at providing a desktop based on the latest releases of KDE and applications using Qt. Of the distribution-specific design features, one can note the placement of a vertical panel on the right side of the screen. The distribution is developed with Arch Linux in mind, but maintains its own independent repository of more than 1500 packages, and also offers a number of its own graphical utilities. The default file system is XFS. Assemblies are published for x86_64 (2.9 GB) systems.
In the new release:
- Desktop components have been updated to KDE Plasma 5.25, KDE Frameworks 5.95, KDE Gear 22.04.2 and Qt 5.15.5 with patches from the KDE project (Qt 6.3.1 is also included).
- A virtual keyboard is integrated into the login and lock screens of the system.
- Updated package versions, including Glibc 2.35, GCC 11.3.0, Binutils 2.38, DBus 1.14.0, Systemd 250.7, Nettle 3.8. The Linux kernel has been updated to release 5.17.15.
- The Calamares installer has been updated to branch 3.3, which has improved installation on encrypted partitions. During the installation of packages, you can view a slideshow with an overview of the distribution kit or view the installation log.
- The IWD background process is used instead of wpa_supplicant to manage wireless connections.
