Release of Lakka 3.4 distribution kit and RetroArch 1.9.9 game console emulator

The release of the distribution kit Lakka 3.4 has been published, which allows you to turn computers, set-top boxes or single-board computers into a full-fledged game console for running retro games. The project is a modification of the LibreELEC distribution, originally designed to create home theaters. Lakka builds are generated for i386, x86_64 (Intel, NVIDIA or AMD GPUs), Raspberry Pi 1-4, Orange Pi, Cubieboard, Cubieboard2, Cubietruck, Banana Pi, Hummingboard, Cubox-i, Odroid C1/C1+/XU3/XU4 and etc. To install, just write the distribution to an SD card or USB drive, connect a gamepad and boot the system.

At the same time, a new release of the RetroArch 1.9.9 game console emulator is presented, which forms the basis of the Lakka distribution. RetroArch emulates a wide range of devices and supports advanced features such as multiplayer, state saving, image enhancement of older games with shaders, game rewind, hot plugging of gamepads and video streaming. Emulated consoles include: Atari 2600/7800/Jaguar/Lynx, Game Boy, Mega Drive, NES, Nintendo 64/DS, PCEngine, PSP, Sega 32X/CD, SuperNES, etc. Gamepads from existing game consoles are supported, including PlayStation 3, DualShock 3, 8bitdo, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

In the new release of RetroArch:

  • Implemented support for high dynamic range (HDR, High Dynamic Range), which is currently limited only to drivers using Direct3D 11/12. For Vulkan, Metal and OpenGL, HDR support is planned to be implemented at a later date.
  • Added support for displaying an interactive menu in the lower touch screen area in the Nintendo 3DS port.
  • Support for advanced search has been implemented in the "Cheats" menu.
  • On platforms that support ARM NEON instructions, optimizations are enabled to speed up audio processing and conversion.
  • Added support for AMD FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) technology to reduce image quality loss when scaling for high resolution screens. AMD FSR can be used with Direct3D10/11/12, OpenGL Core, Metal, and Vulkan graphics API drivers.
