Linux Mint Debian Edition 4 distribution release

saw the light release of an alternative build of the Linux Mint distribution - Linux Mint Debian Edition 4, based on the Debian package base (classic Linux Mint is based on the Ubuntu package base). In addition to the use of the Debian package base, an important difference between LMDE and Linux Mint is the constant update cycle of the package base (continuous update model: partial rolling release, semi-rolling release), in which package updates are constantly released and the user has the opportunity to switch to the latest ones at any time program versions.

Distribution available in the form of installation iso images with the Cinnamon desktop environment. LMDE includes most of the improvements to the classic release Mint 19.3, including original project developments (update manager, configurators, menus, interface, system GUI applications). The distribution is fully compatible with Debian GNU/Linux, but is not package-level compatible with Ubuntu and classic releases of Linux Mint.

LMDE is aimed at more technical users and provides newer versions of packages. The goal of LMDE development is to make sure that Linux Mint can continue to exist in the same form even if development of Ubuntu is terminated. In addition, LMDE helps to check the applications developed by the project for their full work in systems other than Ubuntu.
