MX Linux distribution release 19.1

Took place release of a lightweight distribution MX Linux 19.1, created as a result of the joint work of communities formed around projects antiX ΠΈ mepis. The release is based on the Debian package base with enhancements from the antiX project and numerous native applications that make it easy to configure and install software. The default desktop is Xfce. For downloading 32-bit and 64-bit builds are available, 1.4 GB in size (x86_64, i386).

In the new release:

  • The package database has been updated to Debian 10.3 with some packages borrowed from fresh antiX and MX repositories.
    In addition to the previously offered Linux 4.19 kernel and Mesa 18.3, for 64-bit systems, alternative package options with improved hardware support have been added to the repositories, including the 5.4 kernel, Mesa 19.2, and new releases of graphics drivers.

  • Updated versions
    Xfce 4.14, GIMP 2.10.12, Firefox 73, VLC 3.0.8, Clementine 1.3.1, Thunderbird 68.4.0, LibreOffice 6.1.5 (LibreOffice 6.4 is also offered via MX-Packageinstaller).

  • In the mx-installer (based on gazelle-installer) added the ability to copy basic user settings from the /home/demo directory in the linuxfs archive.
  • Added "--install-recommends" option to mx-packageinstaller to install recommended dependencies (recommended category).
  • mx-tweak added support for setting a user or root password for GUI authentication. Implemented scaling settings via xrandr for Xfce 4.14.
  • Added brightness-systray widget to control screen brightness from system tray.
  • Into the main cast included alternative window manager MX-Fluxbox.
