Release of the NomadBSD 1.3 distribution

Available release of the live distribution NomadBSD 1.3, which is a FreeBSD edition adapted for use as a portable desktop bootable from a USB drive. The graphical environment is based on a window manager open box. Used to mount drives DSBMD (mounting CD9660, FAT, HFS+, NTFS, Ext2/3/4 is supported), to set up a wireless network β€” wifimgr, and to control the volume - DSBMixer. The size boot image 2.3 GB (x86_64, i386).

In the new release:

  • Switched to the FreeBSD 12.1 code base;
  • Due to deadlock issues, the unionfs-fuse module is used instead of the built-in implementation of unionfs;
  • Replaced GPT-based partition table with MBR to address boot issues on Lenovo laptops;
  • Added support for ZFS to the installer;
  • Added the ability to set the country code for the wireless adapter;
  • Added autoconfiguration for running VirtualBox;
  • Added a default screen check to resolve issues on Optimus systems that have NVIDIA graphics disabled.
  • Includes proprietary NVIDIA 440.x driver;
  • Added nomadbsd-dmconfig utility to select default user and enable automatic login without password;
  • Added nomadbsd-adduser utility to add new users;
  • Added templates to ~/.xinitrc to launch other desktops;
  • For new Intel GPUs, the "modesetting" driver is enabled;
  • Added DSBBg, an interface for managing desktop wallpapers;
  • Implemented support for auto-updating the Openbox menu;
  • Removed palemoon and thunderbird from delivery;
  • Added simplescreenrecorder, audacity and orage;
  • fpm2 password manager replaced with KeePassXC,
    sylpheed mail client to claws-mail, and DSBMC drive mount utility replaced with DSBMC-Qt;

  • Added support for multiple keyboard layouts.
