The NomadBSD 1.4 Live distribution is available, which is a FreeBSD edition adapted for use as a portable desktop bootable from a USB stick. The graphical environment is based on the Openbox window manager. DSBMD is used to mount drives (mounting CD9660, FAT, HFS+, NTFS, Ext2/3/4 is supported). The size of the boot image is 2.4 GB (x86_64).
In the new release:
- Synchronized with FreeBSD 12.2 branch (p4);
- The installer implemented the installation of a suitable graphics driver and solved problems with booting through UEFI.
- Improved automatic detection of the graphics driver. If the driver is not matched, then a rollback to the VESA or SCFB drivers is provided.
- Improved touchpad support. Added DSBXinput utility to simplify mouse and touchpad setup.
- Added rc script to save and restore screen brightness settings.
- A graphical interface has been added to make it easier to install Linux builds of Chrome, Brave and Vivaldi, through which you can work with Netflix, Prime Video and Spotify.
- Added the ability to select an alternate window manager when pressing F1 on the login screen.
- Instead of wifimgr, NetworkMgr is used to configure the wireless connection.
- The subsystem for autostarting programs has been brought into line with the XDG specifications.
- The remaining disk space is now mounted on the /data partition. Automatic creation of /compat, /var/tmp, /var/db and /usr/ports mount points is provided.
- Due to the deprecation of the drm-legacy-kmod driver, graphics acceleration support for the i386 architecture has been discontinued when using Intel and AMD GPUs.
