NomadBSD distribution release 131R-20221130

NomadBSD Live Release 131R-20221130 is available, which is a FreeBSD edition adapted for use as a portable desktop bootable from a USB stick. The graphical environment is based on the Openbox window manager. DSBMD is used to mount drives (mounting CD9660, FAT, HFS+, NTFS, Ext2/3/4 is supported). The size of the boot image is 2 GB (x86_64, i386).

In the new release:

  • The base environment has been updated to FreeBSD 13.1.
  • A new nomadbsd-update utility has been added to update NomadBSD components.
  • Assemblies for the x86_64 architecture are divided into two boot images, which differ in the use of UFS and ZFS file systems. The image for the i386 architecture is only available in the UFS variant.
  • UFS-based images are enabled by default to use the Soft Updates logging mechanism, which helps to simplify and speed up file system recovery after a crash.
  • Improved automatic detection of graphics drivers. Added support for VIA/Openchrome drivers. For NVIDIA GPUs not supported by the proprietary driver, the nv.
  • Improved support for switching keyboard layouts. IBus is used to organize the input.
  • Improved rc script used to load acpi modules.
  • The SLiM display manager has been replaced with SDDM.
  • The list of programs offered to run through Linuxulator includes Opera and Microsoft Edge.
  • In order to reduce the size of the boot image, the LibreOffice office suite and some multimedia applications have been removed from the base distribution.
  • The FreeBSD kernel is built with an additional patch that prevents some laptops from freezing when loading the hwpstate_intel driver.
