Parrot 4.9 distribution release with a selection of security checkers

Available distribution release Parrot 4.9, based on the Debian Testing package base and including a collection of tools for system security testing, forensic analysis and reverse engineering. For loading proposed several iso images with the MATE environment (full 3.9 GB and reduced 1.7 GB) and with the KDE desktop (2 GB).

The Parrot distribution is positioned as a portable lab environment for security experts and forensic scientists, focusing on tools for testing cloud systems and IoT devices. It also includes cryptographic tools and programs to provide secure access to the network, including TOR, I2P, anonsurf, gpg, tccf, zulucrypt, veracrypt, truecrypt and luks.

In the new release:

  • Synchronized with the Debian Testing package base as of April 2020.
  • The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.5.
  • Removed packages related to Python 2.
  • Work has been done to improve the menu structure and simplify navigation through application lists.
  • Significantly updated Anonsurf (anonymous mode), which now runs as a background process and can be activated at boot time.
  • Live builds offer a new project-based installer Squid (shipping of regular installation images with the classic Debian installer has been retained).
