Parrot 6.4 distribution release with a selection of security checkers

The release of the Parrot 6.4 distribution has been published. It is based on the Debian 12 package base and includes a selection of tools for checking the security of systems, conducting forensic analysis and reverse engineering. Live builds with the MATE environment, images for virtual machines, container images in Docker format and builds for Raspberry Pi boards are offered for download. The builds are divided into options for everyday use and security testing. Additionally, a script is offered that allows you to create a Parrot environment on top of an already installed Debian distribution.

The distribution is positioned as a portable laboratory with an environment for security experts and forensic experts, focusing on tools for testing cloud systems and Internet of Things devices. The composition also includes cryptographic tools and programs for providing secure access to the network, among others, TOR, I2P, anonsurf, gpg, tccf (Two Cents Cryptography Frontend), zulucrypt, veracrypt, truecrypt and luks are offered.

In the new release:

  • Updated versions of specialized packages, such as: metasploit 6.4.71, airgeddon 11.50, beef-xss 0.5.4.0, powershell-empire 6.1.2, starkiller 3.0.0, netexec 1.4.0, caido 0.48.1, Seclists 2025.2, Seclists-lite 2025.2, gbp-gef 2025.1, enum4linux-ng 1.3.4 and ruby-cms-scanner 0.15.0.
  • The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.12.32. System packages such as systemd 254.26b, mesa 25.0.4 and busybox 1.35.0 have been updated.
  • Provided the ability to install utilities provided by Microsoft through the standard project repository. Added official support for Powershell 7.5 and the .NET platform from version 5 to 9.
  • Rocket toolkit has been added to the repository, allowing you to run applications in separate Docker containers. Support for running Caido, John The Ripper, Katana, Subfinder, and WPScan applications in containers has been added.
  • Updated menu content and added new items such as Sliver and Rocket.
  • The parrot-tools suite includes netcat-openbsd, goshs, dbd and starkiller utilities.
  • The parrot-firefox-profiles package has been updated to the new Firefox 140 ESR branch.
  • Some build scripts have been rewritten and improved.
