Redcore Linux 2101 Distribution Release

After a year of development, the Redcore Linux 2101 distribution has been released, which attempts to combine the functionality of Gentoo with convenience for ordinary users. The distribution provides a simple installer that allows you to quickly deploy a working system without requiring rebuilding components from source. Users are provided with a repository with ready-made binary packages, maintained using a continuous update cycle (rolling model). Package management uses its own sisyphus package manager. An iso image with a KDE desktop is offered for installation, 3.6 GB in size (x86_64).

In the new version:

  • Synchronized with the Gentoo testing tree as of May 31st.
  • Packages with the Linux kernel 5.11.22, 5.10.40 LTS and 5.4.122 LTS are offered for installation.
  • Updated glibc 2.32, gcc 10.2.0, binutils 2.35, llvm 12, mesa 21.1.1, libdrm 2.4.106, xorg-server 1.20.11, alsa 1.2.5, pulseaudio 13.0, gstreamer 1.16.3 KDE Plasma 5.21.5, KDE apps 21.04.1.
  • The suggested browsers are firefox 89.0, chrome/chromium 91, opera 76, vivaldi 3.8, microsoft-edge 91 and falkon 3.1.0-r1.
  • Added support for self contained flatpak packages.
  • Removed the need to enter a password when loading in Live mode.
  • The package includes open-vm-tools (working with vmWare virtual machines) and spice-vdagent (an agent with support for the SPICE remote access protocol for QEMU/KVM).
  • Updated documentation for sisyphus package manager. When switching between the master (stable) and next (testing) branches, the user-specified USE flags, keywords, and masks are remembered. The update logic has been changed - sisyphus no longer tries to update the system to the "testing" branch, but keeps packages up to date based on the stable branch.
