Redcore Linux 2201 Distribution Release

A year since the last release, the Redcore Linux 2201 distribution has been released, which attempts to combine the functionality of Gentoo with convenience for ordinary users. The distribution provides a simple installer that allows you to quickly deploy a working system without requiring rebuilding components from source. Users are provided with a repository with ready-made binary packages, maintained using a continuous update cycle (rolling model). Package management uses its own sisyphus package manager. For installation, an iso image with a KDE desktop is offered, 4.2 GB in size (x86_64).

In the new version:

  • Synchronized with the Gentoo testing tree as of October 5st.
  • Packages with the Linux kernel 5.15.71 (by default) and 5.19 are offered for installation.
  • User environment updated to KDE Plasma 5.25.5, KDE Gear 22.08.1, KDE Frameworks 5.98.0.

  • To increase the performance of multi-threaded games, the possibility of using the "esync" mechanism (Eventfd Synchronization) is provided.
  • The base package includes a timeshift backup system that uses rsync with hard links or Btrfs snapshots to implement functionality similar to System Restore on Windows and Time Machine on macOS.
