STC IT ROSA has released a corrective release of the freely distributed and community-developed ROSA Fresh 12.3 distribution built on the rosa2021.1 platform. Assemblies prepared for the x86_64 platform in versions with KDE Plasma 5, LXQt, GNOME, Xfce and without GUI have been prepared for free download. Users who already have the ROSA Fresh R12 distribution kit installed will receive the update automatically.
The release is notable for the fact that, in addition to the previously formed images with KDE 5, GNOME and LXQt, images with Xfce and a minimalistic server image were released - the first server distribution kit based on the ROSA Fresh package base. The server assembly includes only the minimum set of components necessary for convenient administrator work, and you can install the necessary packages from the repository, including, for example, FreeIPA and the Russian fork of nginx Angie with additional modules.
Other features of the new version:
- Updated package base. The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.15.75 (previously shipped branch 5.10 continues to be supported).
- With the disk layout recommended by the installer (swap enabled), the zswap mechanism is supported, which uses the zstd algorithm for compression, which allows you to work efficiently on systems with a small amount of RAM.
- Additional drivers added to images to support Realtek Bluetooth and WiFi.
- The format of boot images has been changed: the flash drive with the ROSA Linux image is now mounted by default and its contents can be viewed in the file manager.
- For each user environment, two images are now available - standard (with support for both UEFI and BIOS, but with an MBR partition table) and .uefi (also with support for both UEFI and BIOS, but with a GPT partition table), which allows you to put the system on more a wide range of computers.
- Decreased default timeout in bootloader, system boots faster now.
- If the main mirrors are unavailable for installing packages, automatic switching to backup mirrors is provided.
- The rootcerts-russia package with certificates of the certification center of the Russian Ministry of Digital Development has been added to the images (the package can be removed without disrupting the system's performance).
- Added a console utility for auto-installation of NVIDIA kroko-cli video drivers (own development, source code) to the images.
- Out of the box, the console provides support for Russian-language help based on termhelper (own development).
- dnfdragora hides 64-bit packages in 32-bit images for user convenience.
- Added graphic update indicator rosa-update-system to images (own development). Xfce uses the dnfdragora update indicator.
