The Salix 15.0 Linux distribution has been released. It was developed by the creator of Zenwalk Linux, who left the project after a conflict with other developers who advocated a policy of maximum similarity to Slackware. Salix 15 is fully compatible with Slackware Linux 15 and follows a "one application per task" approach. Both 64-bit and 32-bit builds (1.5 GB) are available for download.
The gslapt package manager, which is equivalent to slapt-get, is used for package management. In addition to gslapt, the Sourcery program, a frontend to slapt-src developed specifically for the Salix project, is supplied as a graphical interface for installing programs from SlackBuilds. The standard Slackware package management tools have been modified to support Spkg, allowing the use of external applications like sbopkg without breaking compatibility with Slackware. The installer offers three installation modes: full, basic, and core (for servers).

The new version uses the Xfce 4.16 desktop environment and the GTK3 library for its desktop experience. A new theme is available in light and dark variants. The Whiskermenu plugin is enabled as the default main menu. System utilities have been migrated to GTK3 and updated. Package versions have been updated, including Linux kernel 5.15.63, GCC 11, Glibc 2.33, Firefox 102 ESR, LibreOffice 7.4, and GIMP 2.10. ConsoleKit has been replaced with elogind for user session management. Support for flatpak packages has been added, and installation of programs from the Flathub catalog is now available by default.
