Simply Linux 9 distribution release

Company Basalt SPO announced about the release of the distribution Simply Linux 9built on the basis ninth platform ALT. The product is distributed within license agreement, which does not transfer the right to distribute the distribution, but allows individuals and legal entities to use the system without restrictions. Distribution supplied in builds for x86_64, i586, aarch64, mipsel, e2kv4, e2k, riscv64 architectures and can run on systems with 512 MB of RAM.

Simply Linux represents an easy-to-use system with a classic desktop based on Xfce 4.14, providing full Russification of the interface and most applications. The distribution is designed for home systems and corporate workstations. The composition includes a set of more than thirty applications, specially selected taking into account the preferences of Russian users, as well as an extended set of drivers and codecs.

Of the components of the distribution, the Linux 5.4 kernel (4.9 for e2k and Nvidia Jetson Nano, 5.6 for Raspberry Pi 4), Systemd 243.7 system manager, Chromium 80 browser (Firefox ESR 68.6.0 for aarch64), Thunderbird 68.6.0 mail client, office suite are noted. LibreOffice 6.3.5.2 ("still"), GIMP 2.10.12 graphics editor, Audacious 3.10.1 music player, Pidgin 2.13.0 instant messaging client, VLC 3.0.8 media player (celluloid 0.18 for aarch64 and mipsel), Wine 5.0 (x86 only), Xorg 1.20.5, Mesa 19.1.8, NetworkManager 1.18.4.

A feature of the release is the support for a wide range of hardware platforms, including currently unique for Russian distributions. For example, a universal image for aarch64 was tested on Huawei Kungpeng Desktop (Kungpeng 920), assemblies are available for Raspberry Pi 4 and Jetson Nano, for systems and boards with domestic Baikal-M and Baikal-T processors from Baikal Electronics , and the version for e2kv4 supports double configurations on Elbrus 801-RS ("Gorynych"). Finally, experimental builds on the riscv64 architecture for the HiFive Unleashed board and QEMU have been prepared.

Images for x86 are hybrid and support UEFI (SecureBoot can be left on); pay attention to recommendations by writing to bootable media. The full image also contains a lightweight non-installable LiveCD, and a separate LiveCD is added with the ability to install.
