Tails 4.29 distribution released and Tails 5.0 beta testing started

Tails 4.29 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), a specialized distribution kit, based on the Debian package base and designed to provide anonymous access to the network, has been released. Anonymous exit to Tails is provided by the Tor system. All connections, except traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by default by the packet filter. Encryption is used to store user data in the save user data between runs mode. An iso image has been prepared for download, capable of working in Live mode, with a size of 1.1 GB.

In the new release, the Tor Browser download is organized from its own archive. Updated versions of Tor Browser 11.0.10 based on Firefox 91.8 and Thunderbird 91.7.0 email client. The Linux kernel has been updated to release 5.10.103. The implementation of the obfs4 transport used to bypass locks has been updated to version 0.0.12.

At the same time, the beta version of the new Tails 5.0 branch was announced, which was transferred to the Debian 11 (Bullseye) package base and ships with a GNOME 3.38 session using the Wayland protocol by default. Updated applications include: Audacity 2.4.2, GIMP 2.20.22, Inkscape 1.0.2, LibreOffice 7.0.4, OnionCircuits 0.7, Pidgin 2.14.1.
