Release of Tails 5.21 distribution and Tor Browser 13.0.8

The release of Tails 5.21 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), a specialized distribution kit based on the Debian package base and designed for anonymous access to the network, has been released. Anonymous exit to Tails is provided by the Tor system. All connections, except traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by default by the packet filter. Encryption is used to store user data in the save user data between runs mode. An iso image has been prepared for download, capable of working in Live mode, with a size of 1 GB.

The new version provides a warning with a suggestion to send a report with diagnostic data in case of failure when resizing the system partition during the first boot. The navigation bar provides a localized representation of the date. Updated versions of Tor Browser 13.0.7 and Tor Toolkit 0.4.8.10. Fixed problems with the browser crashing when clicking on the UBlock icon. Improved reliability of time synchronization. Improved backup functionality in Tails Cloner.

Release of Tails 5.21 distribution and Tor Browser 13.0.8

In the meantime, following the release of the Tor Browser 13.0.7 browser involved in Tails 5.21, a corrective release of Tor Browser 13.0.8 was formed, which fixed a flaw that led to the crash of the component with plug-in Tor transports on the Windows 7 platform. The problem was caused by the appearance problems with support for Windows 7 in the Go language toolkit 1.21. To solve the problem, the use of Go version 1.20 was returned to build the lyrebird, conjure and webtunnel plug-in transports. However, the snowflake transport is tied to the capabilities of Go 1.21 and remains unusable on Windows 7. Support for Windows 7 and 8 will be discontinued when Tor Browser migrates to the Firefox 128 codebase next year.

As for the release of Tor Browser 13.0.7, it was synchronized with the Firefox 115.6 ESR codebase, which fixed 19 vulnerabilities. Also updated are Tor 0.4.8.10 and the NoScript 11.4.29 add-on.
