Release of the Tails 5.4 distribution

The release of Tails 5.4 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), a specialized distribution kit based on the Debian package base and designed for anonymous access to the network, has been released. Anonymous exit to Tails is provided by the Tor system. All connections, except traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by default by the packet filter. Encryption is used to store user data in the save user data between runs mode. An iso image has been prepared for download, capable of working in Live mode, with a size of 1 GB.

In the new version, changes have been made to strengthen the protection of the Linux kernel: the mode of randomizing the list of free memory pages is enabled (page_alloc.shuffle=1); disabled TTY Line Discipline autoload (dev.tty.ldisc_autoload=0); disabled the slub_debug=P and page_poison=1 settings in favor of a more efficient init_on_free=1 allocated memory cleanup mode.

HTTPS-only mode is disabled in Unsafe Browser, which is used to access resources on the local network, as forcing forwarding to HTTPS made it difficult to connect to some wireless networks that use HTTP to access the captive portal. Updated versions of Tor Browser 11.5.2 (release not yet officially announced), Tor 0.4.7.10 and Linux kernel 5.10.136.
